The Vice Chancellor of Victoria University, Dr. Lawrence Muganga, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming Uganda’s education sector through technology.

Speaking at the 6th Annual Higher Education Conference 2025 in Mbarara, Dr. Muganga outlined strategic initiatives to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovation into learning institutions.

Under the theme “Exploring the Transformative Role of Technology and AI in Higher Education,” the conference highlighted the urgent need for AI-driven learning solutions to enhance Uganda’s academic standards and equip students for the global digital economy.

According to Spectre Media, the event attracted high-profile education stakeholders, including Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni, a key figure in shaping higher education policies.

Dr. Muganga emphasized that AI is not a luxury but a necessity, capable of revolutionizing learning, improving teaching efficiency, and creating new economic opportunities.

Key Strategies Outlined by Dr. Muganga: Enhancing Learning Experiences: AI-powered tools such as personalized tutors, digital libraries, and 24/7 ICT labs can make education more accessible.

Others include; Empowering Educators: Automating administrative tasks allows lecturers to focus on mentorship, research, and innovation and Boosting Economic Prospects: AI is reshaping the global workforce, with millions of jobs emerging in data science, AI engineering, and digital entrepreneurship by 2030.

Beyond highlighting AI’s potential, Dr. Muganga provided a clear roadmap for its implementation in Uganda’s higher education system. He called on policymakers, universities, and the private sector to prioritize AI adoption.

Under his leadership, Victoria University has emerged as a model for AI-driven education, demonstrating Uganda’s potential to lead Africa’s digital transformation in higher learning.
