Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) troops serving under the United Nations Guard Unit Eleven (UNGU-XI) in Somalia have successfully completed Camp Security and Induction Training for the third batch of personnel.
The training was designed to enhance the effectiveness of UPDF troops in Somalia’s complex operational environment. It focused on equipping them with essential security skills and a comprehensive understanding of UN operations.
The Camp Security Training strengthened the troops’ ability to safeguard the UN compound, personnel, and assets against potential threats. Meanwhile, the Induction Training familiarized them with the UN’s mandate in Somalia and the regulations governing their role within UNGU.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Deputy UNGU-XI Commander, Major Jacob Gowan Kaburika, commended the trainees for their dedication and professionalism.
“You have demonstrated a high level of professionalism and commitment to your duties. I am confident that you will make a positive impact on our operations here in Somalia,” he said.
Robert Beljan, representing the Chief of Training, praised the officers and troops for their discipline, cooperation, and hard work. He encouraged them to apply their newly acquired skills in their operational duties.
The successful completion of the training marks a significant milestone in the UPDF’s mission under UNGU, reinforcing their readiness to fulfill their responsibilities in Somalia.
