On Friday, Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) released the 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) results.

According the results, Mengo Senior School, Buddo SS, St. Mary’s Kitende and others, emerged as the best schools in Literature, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.

Daniel Odong, the Executive Director of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), stated that 141,996 candidates registered for the 2024 UACE exams, an increase from 110,566 candidates in 2023. Among these, 61,957 were female, and 80,039 were male.

However, only 140,888 candidates sat for the exams, compared to 109,486 in 2023, marking an increase of 31,402 candidates. Of those who sat, 61,598 were female, and 79,290 were male.

The number of candidates registered under the Universal Post-O-Level Education and Training (UPOLET) programme rose to 35,652, up from 24,679 in 2023. Among these, 22,500 were male, and 13,152 were female.

“University admissions to degree courses have, up to now, required a minimum of two Principal level passes. If this requirement remains unchanged, 92,273 candidates qualify for university admission, compared to 80,816 in 2023—an increase of 11,457 students. Universities must create additional spaces to accommodate them,” Odong explained.

For students seeking admission to other tertiary institutions, where one Principal pass and two Subsidiary passes are considered, a total of 121,506 candidates qualify.
