While many were tucked up in bed waiting for the big day to arrive, midwives at Iganga Hospital were busy bringing new life into the world.
At least 21 babies were born on Christmas Day at Iganga main hospital. Three of the mothers delivered by caesarean section while the rest were normal deliveries.
One of the midwives on duty, Amina Mirembe, said 15 of the mothers were discharged today after delivering their babies.
Sixteen of the babies are boys. Two sets of twins were also born on the same day. Siida Bilibawa, another midwife, said only 15 babies were born at the same facility last year, making the 21 today a record high in recent recordings.
At the female ward is where we found Prossy Nabirye with her second baby boy to be welcomed into the world at 3.10am on December 25.
He weighed 3.8kg and was described by as “the best Christmas present” she could have asked for.
