KCB Bank Uganda has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable urban development through its participation in the Urbanisation Forum & Homes Expo 2026, where it showcased practical financing solutions designed to help Ugandans own homes, businesses invest in property, and communities transition towards more sustainable ways of living and building.
The two-day expo, held on 5th and 6th September 2026 at Sheraton Kampala Hotel, brought together stakeholders across the housing, property, construction, finance, investment and SME sectors to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping Uganda’s urban future.
Uganda’s urban population reached approximately 15.6 million in 2024, according to World Bank data, increasing demand for housing, commercial property, infrastructure, energy and essential urban services.
For KCB Bank Uganda, this growth represents not only a housing challenge, but a significant opportunity to use finance to support better, more affordable and more sustainable development.
This creates a significant opportunity for the financial sector to support not only the quantity of development, but also its quality and sustainability.
Edgar Byamah, Managing Director, KCB Bank Uganda, said the bank’s participation reflected its broader role in supporting inclusive economic growth and helping more Ugandans access the financing needed to build, own and invest.
“Affordable housing is not just a housing issue; it is an economic development issue,” said Edgar Byamah, Managing Director, KCB Bank Uganda. “When people can access appropriate financing, they can build homes, create rental properties, invest in businesses and build assets for their families. Our role is to make that journey more achievable while ensuring that the investments we support can create lasting value.”
He also added that sustainable urban development would require stronger collaboration across the public and private sectors, with financial institutions playing an important role in mobilising capital and supporting viable projects.
KCB Bank Uganda’s participation at the Expo highlighted the growing role of green finance in shaping the future of Uganda’s homes, businesses and communities.
Through its Green Finance Framework, the Bank supports eligible investments that deliver environmental benefits and contribute to a more low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. These include renewable energy, energy efficiency, water conservation and sustainable waste management.
The Bank’s green-finance solutions extend across households, property developers, businesses, SMEs and institutions, enabling customers to finance a broad range of sustainable investments rather than limiting green finance to a single product or sector.
KCB Bank Uganda’s approach is aligned with Uganda’s evolving climate-finance agenda, including the National Climate Finance Strategy 2025–2030 and the National Green Taxonomy, which seek to direct more capital towards low-carbon and climate-resilient investments.
Through its participation in the Expo, KCB Bank Uganda engaged homeowners, developers, businesses, SMEs and other stakeholders on opportunities across home ownership, property development, renewable energy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport, water conservation and waste management.
The Bank’s message was clear: Uganda’s urban transformation will require more than building bigger cities. It will require financing the homes, businesses and infrastructure that make those cities liveable, productive and sustainable.
KCB Bank Uganda remains committed to working with customers, developers, government, industry players and other partners to expand access to financing and support Uganda’s journey towards more inclusive and sustainable urban growth.
