Victoria University has officially launched the “20 Years of Pastor Wilson Bugembe Music” mega concert—a landmark celebration marking two decades of music, ministry, and impact by one of Uganda’s most beloved gospel artists.
The launch event, held today at the university auditorium, drew an enthusiastic crowd of over 1,000 new students from the July-August intake. It featured a deeply moving personal testimony from Pastor Bugembe, who received a hero’s welcome from the cheering students.
The highly anticipated anniversary concert will take place on August 8, 2025, at the luxurious Kampala Serena Hotel. Bugembe, visibly moved by the support, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Victoria University and MTN Uganda for becoming the first official sponsors of his milestone celebration.
“This is the very first time a university is backing my concert—and not just any university, but one that’s transforming lives,” Bugembe said. “How can I thank Prof. Muganga enough? He has taken in five children from my orphanage on full bursaries—I don’t pay a single coin. That’s a heart for God and for the future.”
Bugembe shared his powerful life story, recounting how he lost both his parents and ended up homeless on the streets of Kampala. His life turned around when a stranger he met along Kampala Road brought him to church. There, Steven Mbogo, a member of the congregation, took him in. The church community raised an offering that helped Bugembe get a mattress, clothes, and a fresh start.
Today, he leads The Worship House in Nansana and runs Mercy Child Care Centre in Wakiso, a home for orphaned children—just like he once was.
Victoria University Vice Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Muganga praised Pastor Bugembe as “one of the most inspiring Ugandans of our time,” and welcomed the incoming students with a bold challenge to live with purpose.
“We’re not here to fill your heads with notes and leave you empty-handed after graduation,” Muganga said. “You study for only 15 hours a week—use the rest of your time to build something meaningful, solve problems, and change lives.”
Prof. Muganga announced that the university is providing laptops to students on a three-year loan basis, urging a shift from traditional notebooks to smart devices.
“This is a digital university,” he emphasized. “We expect all our students to use smartphones or laptops. This is the world we live in. Learn how to harness the internet and AI to create income, build careers, and shape the future.”
The event ended on a high note, with Bugembe inviting students to sing along to his popular gospel hits. Several students who impressed during the sing-along were awarded free tickets to the upcoming concert.
With full backing from Victoria University and MTN Uganda, the August 8 mega concert promises to be more than just music—it will be a night of celebration, testimony, and praise, honoring 20 years of faith, resilience, and transformation.
