Outspoken political commentator and media figure Frank Gashumba has entered a new chapter not in politics, but in fatherhood.

Appearing on the Entugga morning show on Radio 4 with host Adam Kungu, Gashumba made the surprise announcement that he and his wife, Patience Malaika Mutoni, have welcomed a newborn baby.

“I’m thrilled to share that our baby is here. Malaika and the little one are both doing great,” he said, visibly beaming on air.

The revelation ends months of quiet speculation. Rumors about Malaika’s pregnancy began swirling as early as May, but the couple chose to keep the news private until now.

Their traditional wedding earlier this year was already a media sensation, but this new addition has only deepened public fascination with the couple, whose romance has defied Uganda’s usual political and celebrity norms.

Once known as one of the country’s most eligible bachelors outspoken, fearless, and famously independent Gashumba’s transformation into husband and father has taken many by surprise.

Social media erupted shortly after the announcement, with floods of congratulatory messages pouring in from across the political divide, civil society, and fans alike. However, the couple has chosen to keep some details under wraps, including the baby’s name and gender.

Despite his evolving personal life, Gashumba isn’t stepping back from public affairs. As Chairperson of the Council for Abavandimwe, he remains an influential voice, often rattling establishment cages with his no-holds-barred commentary on national governance and policy.

But today, the firebrand pundit isn’t trending for a political rant he’s trending for something much warmer: becoming a dad.
