President Yoweri Museveni has mourned the passing of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a freedom fighter and a true patriot.
Odinga passed away yesterday in Kochi, India, after suffering a cardiac arrest.
“It is with a lot of sadness that I received the news of the death of Raila Amolo Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya. Odinga was not just a career politician, he was a freedom fighter, following in the footsteps of his late father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya’s first Vice President,” President Museveni said.
He noted that both Raila and his father were ideologically aligned with patriotic and Pan-Africanist values.
“I shared many ideas with both of them. Their vision was always centered on the unity of Kenya, East Africa, and the African continent. They consistently supported the cause for the realization of our dream, the East African Federation.”
“It is unfortunate that he has left us at this moment. It is important for the young people of Africa to step up and fill the void left by such historical fighters for the continent’s future,” Museveni said.
