The nomination of candidates for the 2026 Parliamentary Elections has officially kicked off at various regional offices of the Electoral Commission.
The Electoral Commission designated Wednesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 23, 2025, as the official nomination dates for candidates seeking to contest in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
“The nominations shall be conducted at the respective district/city headquarters across the country, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 5:00 p.m. on each of the appointed dates,” said Justice Simon Byabakama, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
The nominations cover a wide range of parliamentary seats, including 353 Directly-Elected Members of Parliament, 146 District Woman Representatives, and five representatives each for the following categories: Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities, Workers, and Youths.
Annet Ashaba, the Kyotera District Returning Officer, said they expect full cooperation from candidates in adhering to the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission. She emphasized that all candidates must bring the required documents to avoid any embarrassment and to help minimize crowding at EC offices.
“They must show proof that they paid nomination fees of Shs 3 million to the Electoral Commission, provide passport-sized photos, academic documents, and are expected to come with only 20 people ahead of their nominations,” she explained.
The nomination of a candidate must be made by two registered voters, who are required to appear in person.
Additionally, each candidate must submit a list of at least ten supporters who are registered voters from the constituency in which they seek nomination. Each supporter must include their name, signature, village, occupation, and personal voter registration number on the nomination paper.
