Nandala Mafabi, the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, has warned National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, that he does not have a monopoly on violence.
On Tuesday, during Mafabi’s campaign rally in Budaka district, clashes erupted between FDC and NUP supporters. Mafabi accused NUP supporters of provoking his followers and warned that FDC supporters would defend themselves if attacked.
“I want to call on Kyagulanyi, the president of NUP, that you are not the one who has a monopoly on violence. You are not. If your boys are good at attacking others, I can assure you we have capacity. We will not need the army nor the police to assist us in this. We will deal with you,” Mafabi said.
He added that FDC supporters had been attacked several times by their NUP counterparts and warned that they would retaliate if the violence continued.
“We have five people with broken heads and they are in hospitals. But to forgive you — try it again, you will leave it to regret. I want to tell the police and the Electoral Commission that any slight mistake by NUP we are going to reciprocate with maximum force and energy,” he said.
