The Anti-Corruption Court has remanded three police officers to Luzira Prison over allegations of abuse of office.
The officers, who were attached to Busia Border, face three charges: abuse of office, aiding a prisoner to escape, and conspiracy to defeat justice.
The accused officers are Assistant Inspector of Police (AIP) Kali Godfrey, Corporal Owiny Peter, and Odul Oscar. They have been remanded until January 21, 2025.
Prosecution alleges that between December 22 and 23, 2025, while employed as police officers attached to the Interpol and Terrorism Tactical Unit at the Busia Customs Office, the accused abused their authority by aiding the escape of Kasule Najib, a suspect who had been intercepted at the Uganda–Kenya border.
Kasule Najib is a key suspect in a gold scam currently under investigation by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in which an American national was allegedly defrauded of more than USD 840,000.
