City socialite Brian Kirumira, popularly known as Brian White, failed to appear in court due to a deteriorating health condition.

Brian White is facing seven charges, including manslaughter following the death of his girlfriend, Caroline Nalubwama, possession of narcotic drugs, conspiracy to commit a felony, and giving false information.

Joyce Irene Nambalirwa, the proprietor of Mabirizi Nursing Home, together with Nakato Naava, Daphine Abaho, and Daisy Nalunga—believed to be Brian White’s legally wedded wife—appeared before court.

Prosecution, led by Carol Opiya, informed court that Brian White is currently under medical care at Luzira Maximum Prison and was therefore unable to attend the court session. She added that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.

Presiding Magistrate Sarah Basemera subsequently adjourned the case to February 17.

What initially appeared to be a fire accident at the flamboyant city socialite’s home has since escalated into a full-scale criminal investigation, resulting in the arrest of four individuals, including a doctor, a nurse, and White’s wife.

The arrests follow the suspicious death of 25-year-old Caroline Nalubwama, who was reportedly Brian White’s girlfriend. Her death was initially attributed to burns sustained in a household fire, but investigators now believe the circumstances surrounding the incident may have been fabricated.

Investigations have revealed that the incident occurred on October 22, rather than October 24 as earlier reported, and was only reported to police on October 27.

Nalubwama was first admitted to Mabirizi Nursing Home, where Dr. Nambalirwa allegedly delayed her referral to Kiruddu Hospital, citing unpaid medical bills. Police sources claim this delay may have contributed to her death. It is also alleged that the clinic confiscated a laptop belonging to one of her caretakers as “collateral.”

Investigators say inconsistencies in the timeline and attempts to handle the matter discreetly have raised further suspicion.

“The delay in seeking proper medical attention and failure to promptly report the incident suggest that the suspects were attempting to conceal key details,” said Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson.

Sources close to the investigation indicate that detectives are examining whether the fire was accidental or staged, and whether Nalubwama’s injuries are consistent with the reported circumstances.
