Harry Maguire has once again been found guilty by a Greek court over the 2020 altercation on the island of Mykonos, receiving a 15 month suspended sentence
The Manchester United defender was convicted of non serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery following a retrial that concluded after years of legal delays. He has consistently denied the accusations and is expected to appeal the ruling.
The case stems from an incident in August 2020, when Maguire was arrested along with his brother and a friend after a fight outside a bar. The confrontation reportedly followed claims that his sister had been injected with a suspected rape drug.
Maguire was originally handed a 21 month suspended sentence shortly after the incident. That conviction was later overturned on appeal, paving the way for a retrial that was postponed four times before finally proceeding. He was not required to attend the latest court session.
A suspended sentence means Maguire will not serve prison time unless he commits another offence within the specified period.
The legal saga previously had implications for his international career. Then England manager Gareth Southgate temporarily dropped him from the England national football team squad after the initial conviction. Although he later returned to the fold, he has not featured for the national side since 2024.
At club level, Maguire remains part of the Manchester United squad, making 17 appearances this season. He is in contention to feature against Newcastle United as the Premier League campaign continues.
