Pearl Bank has strengthened efforts to improve education oversight by donating motorcycles to the Church of Uganda (COU) Education Directorate, easing transport challenges for inspectors serving hard-to-reach schools.
The move is expected to enhance the mobility of Diocesan Education Inspectors (DEIs), enabling more frequent and effective monitoring of schools, particularly in rural and underserved communities.
Pearl Bank’s executive director for operations, Martin Mugisha, said the partnership reflects the bank’s broader commitment to supporting education as a driver of national development.
“Education remains a cornerstone of national progress. By supporting the mobility of inspectors, we are helping to improve supervision and ultimately the quality of learning, especially in underserved areas,” Mugisha said.
Church of Uganda Archbishop, the Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kazimba Mugalu, welcomed the intervention, noting that limited transport has long hindered inspectors’ ability to reach some schools.
“We appreciate Pearl Bank for this meaningful support. These motorcycles will enable our inspectors to access previously hard-to-reach schools and ensure consistent standards in education delivery,” he said.
With one of the largest education networks in the country, the Church of Uganda relies heavily on effective inspection systems to maintain quality across its institutions.
The initiative underscores Pearl Bank’s growing focus on community-centred investments, particularly in education, as it seeks to contribute to long-term social and economic development.
