Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has been declared the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Second National Vice Chairperson (Female) after defeating Speaker Emeritus Rebecca Kadaga in a highly anticipated internal party election.

The declaration was made by Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission.

“I, Tanga Odoi, being the NRM Electoral Commission returning officer for the internal party election for the position of Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), hereby declare Anita Among, who has received the highest number of votes,” he announced.

According to the official results, Among polled 11,680 votes, while Rt Hon Kadaga garnered 902 votes, marking a decisive landslide victory for the current Speaker of Parliament.

Following the announcement, Among expressed heartfelt gratitude to her supporters across the country.

“With deep humility, I accept this landslide victory,” she said. “I want to express my gratitude to our mother, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, for running an excellent campaign and for her significant contributions to the party and our country. We will continue to rely on her wisdom and guidance in the days ahead.”

In her concession remarks, Kadaga acknowledged her supporters and raised serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral process.

“I deeply thank everyone who, despite massive voter bribery and intimidation, stood by me. The gross abuse of office witnessed throughout this election is truly unacceptable,” she said.

“We cherish our party, but if this oppression persists, we shall be left with no choice but to walk away.”

The election result marks a generational shift within the NRM’s top leadership, with Among now taking on a more prominent role within the ruling party’s national executive structure.
