Former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has revealed that he is not free and that his home remains under siege.
Kyagulanyi said the situation follows the arrest and detention of Butambala County Member of Parliament Muwanga Kivumbi, who also serves as the National Unity Platform (NUP) Vice President for the Central Region. Kivumbi’s arrest is reportedly linked to recent incidents of political unrest in Butambala District.
These developments come barely a week after Bobi Wine lost the presidential election to National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The elections were held on January 15, 2026.
“I am not free. My home is still under siege, and the criminal regime is trying to hunt me down. And yet, three out of my four Deputy Presidents are also in detention,” Bobi Wine said.
The former MP added that the Deputy President for Northern Uganda, Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, is still missing after reportedly being abducted from her home on January 15.
“My Deputy President for Western Uganda, Jolly Jacklyn Tukamushaba, is still missing after being abducted from Rukiga District on January 14. My Deputy President for the Central Region, Muwanga Kivumbi, was arrested yesterday and is currently being held at Kira Division Police,” Bobi Wine said.
Museveni, who won with 71 percent of the vote, defeated seven other presidential candidates, including Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu of the National Unity Platform (NUP); Elton Joseph Mabirizi of the Conservative Party (CP); and Robert Kasibante of the National Peasants Party (NPP).
Other contenders included Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC); Mugisha Gregg Muntu of the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT); Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga of the Common Man’s Party (CMP); and Frank Bulira Kabinga of the Revolutionary People’s Party (RPP).
According to the Electoral Commission, Museveni garnered 7,946,772 votes, followed by Kyagulanyi with 2,741,238 votes. Nandala Mafabi received 209,039 votes, while Mugisha Muntu polled 59,276 votes.
Robert Kasibante received 33,444 votes, Elton Joseph Mabirizi garnered 32,458 votes, Munyagwa Mubarak Sserunga received 31,666 votes, and Frank Bulira Kabinga obtained 45,959 votes.
