Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, the Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has reportedly been abducted by military personnel under unclear circumstances.

The incident was confirmed by the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, who was with Mufumbiro and other NUP members at the Kawempe Magistrates Court during the hearing of a bail application for Eddie Mutwe and others.

“As we proceeded with the court session at Kawempe, NUP Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa stepped out briefly to attend to other engagements. Moments later, he was violently seized by military operatives, forced into a silver Noah van, registration number UAK 368K, and taken to an unknown location,” Ssenyonyi stated.

He condemned the act, calling it yet another example of the regime’s ongoing intimidation tactics.

“The cowardice and criminality of the regime is baffling,” he added.

The National Unity Platform has repeatedly raised concerns over the continued abductions, arbitrary arrests, and disappearances of its members. The latest incident is likely to intensify scrutiny on the government’s handling of opposition voices.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding Mufumbiro’s reported abduction.
