Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court has remanded city socialite Brian Kirumira, aka Brian White, over the suspicious death of his girlfriend, Caroline Nalubwama.
Appearing before Magistrate Sarah Basemera, Brian White was charged with seven counts including manslaughter, possession of narcotic drugs, conspiracy to commit a felony, and giving false information. He was subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison until December 18, 2025.
A suspected fire accident at the home of the flamboyant city socialite spiraled into a full-scale criminal investigation, leading to the arrest of four individuals, including a doctor, a nurse, and White’s wife.
Dr. Joyce Irene Nambalirwa, proprietor of Mabirizi Nursing Home, along with Nakato Naava, Daphine Abaho, and Daisy Nalunga believed to be Bryan White’s legally wedded wife were arrested, charged, and remanded.
The arrests follow the suspicious death of 25-year-old Caroline Nalubwama, reportedly Brian White’s girlfriend. Her death was initially attributed to burns sustained in a household fire, but investigators now believe the circumstances may have been fabricated.
Investigations have revealed that the incident occurred on October 22, not October 24 as earlier stated, and was only reported to police on October 27.
Nalubwama was first admitted to Mabirizi Nursing Home, where Dr. Nambalirwa allegedly delayed her referral to Kiruddu Hospital, citing unpaid medical bills. Police sources claim this delay may have contributed to her death, and that the clinic allegedly confiscated a laptop belonging to one of her caretakers as “collateral.”
Investigators say inconsistencies in the timeline and efforts to handle the situation discreetly have raised further suspicion.
“The delay in seeking proper medical attention and failure to promptly report the incident suggest that the suspects were attempting to conceal key details,” Luke Owoyesigyire, Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesman
Adding to the mystery, police confirmed that Bryan White is under hospital guard at a private facility along Interval Road.
“We assign guards to individuals of interest in ongoing investigations,” Owoyesigyire said, fueling speculation about Bryan White’s possible involvement.
Sources close to the investigation suggest that detectives are examining whether the fire was accidental or staged, and whether Nalubwama’s injuries are consistent with the reported circumstances.
The case file has been forwarded to the Resident State Attorney (RSA) for review, who will determine whether formal charges will be filed against the suspects.
“Further updates will be provided once the RSA gives guidance,” Owoyesigyire said.
