NBS Television investigative journalist Canary Mugume has publicly spoken out about what he describes as years of domestic abuse at the hands of his wife, Fiona Nagirinya, widely known as Sasha Ferguson.

The couple married on September 19, 2021, at Miracle Centre Cathedral under the officiation of Pastor Robert Kayanja. However, barely a year into the marriage, Canary says attempts were made to paint him as an abusive partner and an irresponsible father.

Breaking his silence, he revealed: “I normally choose silence, but there are narratives that must be corrected. I am part of the unreported statistics of men who experience domestic violence from partners with uncontrolled anger. But because we are men in a corporate world, we stay silent and keep showing up.”

He noted that despite enduring repeated provocation and assault, public opinion tends to automatically favour the woman.

“I have evidence of myself bleeding after being assaulted. My closest friends and family know this,” he said.

Canary also addressed claims regarding child support, saying that he has only seen his children once in the past ten months, yet he has consistently sent financial support every month, an amount he says was set by his accuser, not by him. He says there are messages and receipts acknowledging these payments.

He revealed that he sought legal remedy and won custody of his children, but the ruling has not been implemented.

According to him, the court granted custody on grounds of desertion, noting that the children had been left in a locked apartment with a maid while their mother travelled abroad.

Since January, he says, he has been denied access to them despite repeated efforts and third-party interventions.

In his message to men, Canary urged them not to stay silent in abusive situations.

“All men, speak up against violence from your wives while you still can. I kept quiet for too long, and it didn’t help. This is the last time I will address this matter. Please allow me the space to heal.”
