Cedric Babu, son of Capt. Francis Babu and Olive Kigongo is seeking £300,000 (approximately Shs 1.2 billion) to undergo a heart transplant.
The sportsman is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where he was airlifted after collapsing in Kigali, Rwanda.
“We’re writing this with urgency and hope in our hearts. Cedric, our father, brother, son, uncle, friend, and a bright light in our lives is currently in the ICU, courageously fighting for his life after being diagnosed with severe heart failure,” his family shared in a statement.
They added, “We are launching this fundraiser to raise £300,000 (Shs 1.2 billion). His condition has rapidly deteriorated, and doctors have confirmed that his only chance of survival is a heart transplant.”
According to the family, the life-saving procedure can only be performed abroad. Cedric must be medically evacuated to London immediately to begin the transplant process.
“This is more than a medical emergency, it’s a fight for Cedric’s future. Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to giving him the second chance he so desperately needs.”
The family also appealed for support beyond financial help: “If you’re unable to contribute financially, you can still make a huge impact by sharing this page with your networks. Let’s come together for Cedric. Let’s help keep him alive.”
