The Uganda Police have announced a series of stringent security measures that fans must adhere to before being granted access to the premises of Mandela National Stadium during the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025.
Uganda is co-hosting the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania.
“To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all, the following items are strictly prohibited within the stadium premises: airhorns (vuvuzelas), whistles, glass bottles and cans, large bags and suitcases, video cameras, tools such as hammers, flasks, smoke canisters, fireworks, and umbrellas,” the police stated in a press release issued on August 7, 2025.
According to the police, these measures were implemented following consultations with various stakeholders after the stadium hosted its first fixtures.
“Our security team successfully secured the initial matches at Mandela National Stadium,” the statement read. “Subsequently, a review meeting was held in collaboration with the Local Organising Committee and representatives from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to enhance the existing security protocols.”
The police urged all attendees to cooperate fully with the new regulations, emphasising that the measures are in place to protect everyone’s safety. They also confirmed that individuals who attempted to breach security protocols during earlier matches were dealt with accordingly.
Tomorrow, Mandela National Stadium will host two fixtures: Algeria vs South Africa at 17:00 and Guinea vs Uganda at 20:00.
