Coca-Cola Beverages Uganda (CCBU) and road safety advocate Joseph Beyanga, popularly known as Joe Walker, have joined forces once again to promote road safety awareness. The fourth edition of the Joe Walker Road Safety Walk took place from February 24 to March 7, 2025, reinforcing the ongoing partnership between CCBU and Beyanga.
As the official hydration partner, CCBU provided essential support, ensuring participants remained refreshed throughout the journey. The walk covered approximately 340 km from Kampala to Gulu, engaging communities along the route in meaningful conversations about responsible road use and accident prevention.
CCBU, a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Beverages Africa, supplied Rwenzori Pure Natural Mineral Water and carbonated soft drinks to Joe Walker and his team. Kirunda Magoola, Public Affairs, Communication, and Sustainability Director at CCBU, highlighted the importance of hydration and reiterated the company’s commitment to road safety.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility, and CCBU has consistently supported this initiative to foster safer communities. In 2022, we launched the ‘Zero is Possible’ campaign to educate staff and the public on reducing road accident fatalities and promoting a culture of safety,” Magoola said.
Joe Walker expressed his appreciation for CCBU’s continued support, noting that their contribution has been instrumental in sustaining the campaign over the years. He emphasized that the partnership represents a shared commitment to making roads safer for all Ugandans.
The Joe Walker Road Safety Campaign aims to address road safety challenges in Uganda by directly engaging with communities and advocating for responsible road practices. During the Kampala-Gulu walk, the team conducted school outreach programs to educate students on road safety and responsible behavior. Additionally, boda-boda riders participated in activations promoting safer road usage, while discussions with traffic police officers focused on collaborative efforts to enhance road safety measures.
The initiative also included the painting of zebra crossings to improve pedestrian safety and training sessions for drivers to encourage responsible driving habits. Through these efforts, Joe Walker and CCBU continue to make a significant impact on road safety awareness across Uganda.
