Makindye Chief Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu has sentenced Ernest Edengel, a teacher, to three years in prison.
Edengel pleaded guilty to 12 counts of fraud and obtaining money by false pretence. According to the prosecution, between September 2024 and February 2025, he, along with other suspects still at large, used the phone number 0786048140 to impersonate former MP Francis Mukula, targeting victims in Luweero and Pallisa districts.
He promised scholarships and government jobs in exchange for money, duping victims including Rose Bisika, who lost Shs 1.5 million; Peter Osilon, Shs 805,000; and Daniel Ayek, Shs 455,000.
Edengel has been on remand since May 6, 2025, while authorities continue to pursue the remaining suspects.
