The Deputy Spokesperson of the National Unity Platform (NUP), Waiswa Mufumbiro, has been charged with inciting supporters of his party to commit murder against security personnel.
Appearing before Nakawa Grade One Magistrate Frank Nahamya, Mufumbiro pleaded not guilty and was subsequently remanded to Luzira Prison until November 4, 2025.
Prosecution alleges that on September 4, 2025, within Kampala City, Mufumbiro incited NUP supporters to commit acts of violence against members of Uganda’s security forces.
In a separate but related case, Mufumbiro and seven other NUP members—including Edward Ssebufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, the head of former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine)’s security detail—are facing additional charges in the Kawempe Chief Magistrate’s Court.
These charges include unlawful drilling, conspiracy to commit a felony, and related offenses.
According to the prosecution, on February 12, 2025, the nine suspects—together with others still at large—participated in a meeting at the NUP offices in Makerere-Kavule.
The meeting allegedly involved unauthorized military-style drills, movements, and formations, in violation of Section 45(1)(b) of the Penal Code Act.
