Cartoonist Dr. Jim Spire Ssentongo has dismissed allegations of foul play surrounding the sudden death of his brother, Dr. John Spire Kiggundu.
Dr. Kiggundu, who also served as the President of the Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Uganda (ALSU), was found dead under mysterious circumstances on Sunday after being reported missing.
“Though this may not be the ideal time as we mourn, I feel it’s important to address the harmful misinformation circulating about Dr. John Spire Kiggundu’s death,” Ssentongo stated.
He clarified that claims suggesting his brother was shot and dumped in a trench, or that he was kidnapped or killed for political or other reasons, are completely false.
“The post-mortem report—conducted credibly—shows that he died of a heart attack and was found a day later,” he said. “It is also untrue that he had any business relationship with Owek. Peter Mayiga.”
Ssentongo added that his brother was only a chief guest at the launch of Henrob Hospital in 2020. The hospital, which Dr. Kiggundu built from a one-room clinic in 2003, was the result of years of hard work and dedication. It is named after his sons, Henry and Robert.
