One person has been confirmed dead and four others injured in a fatal road crash that occurred on July 21, 2025, at approximately 1:30 AM at Katovu in Ngongwe, along the Katosi–Nyenga Road in Buikwe District. Kananura Michael, spokesperson for the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety.
The incident involved a Scania bus, registration number UA 354AN, operated by Gateway Bus Company, which was en route from Kampala to Soroti via the Katosi route.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash was caused by a front tyre burst, leading the driver to lose control of the vehicle. The bus overturned on its right side, resulting in the instant death of the driver and injuries to four passengers of varying severity,” Kananura said
Police responded swiftly to the scene. The injured were transported to Nkonkonjeru Health Centre and Kawolo Hospital for medical treatment, while the driver’s body was taken to Kawolo Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. The vehicle was towed to Ngongwe Police Station as investigations continue.
“Authorities urge all motorists to conduct regular vehicle maintenance checks and strictly adhere to road safety regulations to help prevent such tragic incidents,” he said.
