In a significant boost to local connectivity and economic activity, the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd, in partnership with Hoima City, has officially handed over the newly rehabilitated Nyamasoga–Katooke Road under its Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) Programme.
The 7.5-kilometre marram road, located in Buseruka Sub-County, Hoima District, connects the villages of Kayera and Katooke—home to approximately 6,500 residents across more than 600 households. Previously difficult to navigate and often impassable by vehicles, the road has now been transformed into a reliable transport link that is expected to stimulate trade and improve daily life for surrounding communities.
By strengthening connectivity to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway and key trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka, the upgraded road will ease the movement of people and goods. It will also enhance access to essential services, including schools, health facilities, and local markets—critical pillars for community development.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, JB Habumugisha, Deputy Managing Director of EACOP Ltd, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to shared prosperity along the pipeline corridor.
“EACOP remains dedicated to ensuring that communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This project reflects our continued partnership with government authorities to address local development priorities,” he said.
The rehabilitation followed a request from the Hoima District leadership to improve transport and accessibility in the area. With the road now complete, it is expected to unlock new economic opportunities and contribute to sustained growth within the region.
Rodgers Mbabazi, Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Hoima District, commended EACOP for its collaboration and investment in community infrastructure. He emphasized that such initiatives are instrumental in improving livelihoods and accelerating local development.
The road was officially handed over to Mbabazi at a ceremony held at Katooke Trading Centre, attended by local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer, and members of the community.
