The Electoral Commission has disqualified singer Mathias Walukagga for failing to meet the nomination requirements.

On November 4, 2025, Medard Seggona petitioned the Electoral Commission, alleging that Walukagga Mathias did not possess the requisite minimum academic qualifications for nomination as a candidate for the office of Member of Parliament.

The petitioner contended that the Certificate of Mature Age/Aptitude Test used by Walukagga during his nomination on October 23, 2025, had expired, rendering it invalid.

Walukagga, through his lawyers, argued that since he was admitted to university and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration on the basis of the same certificate, it should be considered valid for nomination purposes.

However, Justice Simon Byabakama observed that the Mature Age/Aptitude Test Certificate presented by Walukagga had clearly expired by October 23, 2025.

“Candidate Walukaga Mathias lacked the requisite minimum formal qualifications for the elective office of Member of Parliament as stipulated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Parliamentary Elections Act,” Justice Byabakama ruled.
