The Elgon Expo & Convention is set to host the 10-day Explore Elgon Pamoja 2025 from December 4–14 at Mbale S.S in Mbale City, under the theme “Harnessing Our Heritage for a Thriving Future.” The event aims to promote tourism and accelerate socio-economic transformation in the Bugisu Subregion.
Speaking to journalists, Chief Coordinator Isaac Masumba said the Expo is centered on sustainable development and highlighting the unique tourism potential of Mt. Elgon, home to the world’s largest caldera. He added that the initiative represents a major step toward transforming the region through tourism, culture, and environmental conservation.
“The event will feature a range of activities including a tourism showcase, cultural gala, marathon, Wagagai excursion, symposium, tree planting, music, dance and drama performances, poetry, and a live concert,” Masumba said.
John Hunwick, Director of Elgon Trekking Services, encouraged residents of Mbale and the wider Bugisu Subregion to embrace tourism as a key driver of development.
Uthman Mukote, Director of Kaukab Travel, noted that proceeds from the Expo will be used to support environmental conservation and green the region.
“We want Mbale to shine like other cities. This Elgon Expo is not only for Mbale, but for the whole of East Africa,” he said, emphasizing that the initiative is inclusive and free from religious, cultural, or tribal discrimination.
Nathan Wasike, Manager of Dream Palace Hotel and representative of the Mbale Hospitality Association, said local hotels are fully prepared and expected to benefit significantly from the Expo. He urged the public to attend and support the event.
Meanwhile, Esther Kuloba announced that participants can join the Expo marathon by purchasing a running kit at Shs 35,000, with proceeds going toward environmental conservation efforts.
Kits are available at Mbale Courts View Hotel, BAM Shopping Centre, Abrah Supermarkets, and Dream Palace.
