Entebbe International Airport has recorded a total of 216,740 passengers in January 2025, marking a significant increase from 194,563 international passengers in the same period last year, Daily Star has learned.
Of the total passengers in January 2025, 105,320 were arrivals, while 111,420 were departures, averaging 6,991 passengers per day.
According to Vianney Luggya, the Spokesperson of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), the surge in air traffic is attributed to multiple factors, including increased tourism, Uganda’s hosting of international conferences, and the expansion of airline operations. Notably, the African Union Extraordinary Comprehensive African Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) in Kampala attracted 977 delegates, boosting traffic.
Additional contributors to the growth include Uganda Airlines’ sustained operations on new routes and the entry of new airlines such as Kush Air and Premier Airlines, which began flights to Juba in December 2024.
January 2025 ranks as the second-highest month for passenger traffic at Entebbe, following December 2024, which saw 222,317 passengers. Other notable months include: August 2024 where 204,575 passengers were recorded and 198,961 passengers in December 2023.
In total, Entebbe Airport handled 2,243,104 international passengers in 2024, compared to 1,932,094 in 2023—a 16% increase.
Cargo traffic at Entebbe also experienced growth in January 2025, with 3,491 metric tonnes of exports, 1,578 metric tonnes of imports, making a total of 5,069 metric tonnes.
