The principal of Seeta High Schools, Kafumbe Davis, has confirmed that Kevin Nsamba, the Senior Six student who tragically drowned on Sunday, did not know how to swim.
Nsamba reportedly drowned in the school’s swimming pool after playing football with classmates earlier in the evening. The incident occurred around 5:30 PM on Sunday, August 3, shortly after a football match involving Senior Six students.
“On the evening of Sunday, 3rd August 2025, while our Senior Six students were returning from an exciting football match, a number of them, without authorization and outside the school’s swimming guidelines, ran towards and jumped into the school swimming pool. Sadly, the victim, who did not know how to swim, was among them,” said Principal Kafumbe.
He further noted that the school administration was unaware of the incident until a routine roll call revealed one student missing.
“The Administration and school security immediately launched a search and notified the police for reinforcement. A broader joint search was then conducted in the presence of the student’s parents. Tragically, it was discovered that the student had drowned in the swimming pool. The police later recovered the body,” Kafumbe explained.
“This heartbreaking incident has left the entire Seeta High School community in deep sorrow. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the parents, family, friends, and fellow students during this difficult time,” he added.
Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Police Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Area, confirmed the incident and ongoing investigations.
“There were trainees in the pool under the supervision of a lifeguard at the time. Nsamba reportedly jumped into the deep end and vanished,” Owoyesigyire said.
He also revealed that the swimming pool trainer has been arrested to assist with investigations. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed frame by frame to establish the sequence of events.
Preliminary findings suggest that a pool attendant was present, but their actions during the incident remain under scrutiny.
