At least five unidentified assailants have been shot dead following a foiled attack on Canon Apollo Core Primary Teachers College (PTC) in Fort Portal City, Daily Star has learned.

According to preliminary reports, the machete-wielding attackers attempted to storm the teachers’ college early Saturday morning but were intercepted by security forces, who put five of them “out of action.”

SP Pius Bitembo, the District Police Commander (DPC) for Fort Portal North Division, said the group had earlier been spotted advancing from Karangura in Kabarole District at around 6:50 a.m., armed with pangas and heading toward Bukuuku.

Investigations into the motive and possible affiliations of the assailants are ongoing.
