Lawrence Alionzi, the former Guild President of Makerere University, has joined the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Alionzi, who previously won the guild presidency on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, was received by NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong.
He was accompanied by a group of youth leaders who also defected to the NRM, citing a lack of clear ideology and strategic leadership within the opposition to effectively guide the country’s future.
Secretary General Todwong expressed his excitement about the growing youth support for the movement.
“It is very humbling to see young, educated people join the NRM,” Todwong said. “This movement is not something to take lightly—it is permanent. It began with our grandfathers, was passed to us, and now it is time for us to hand it over to you, our children.”
