Former Supreme Mufti of the Kibuli-based Muslim faction in Uganda, Sheikh Siliman Kasule Ndirangwa, has passed away, Daily Star can reliably report.

In April 2021, Ndirangwa has stepped down from his role with immediate effect. In a brief statement, he attributed his resignation to internal conflicts within the Kibuli leadership.

Despite his departure, Ndirangwa called on incoming leaders to prioritize unifying the Muslim community, which has recently experienced divisions and factionalism.

His resignation follows just months after the passing of Sheikh Nuhu Muzaata, a vocal figure who served as spokesperson for the Kibuli faction.

Ndirangwa assumed the position of Supreme Mufti of the Kibuli-based Muslim group on December 16, 2015, succeeding Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo, who passed away in April 2014. His deputies during his tenure were Mahmoud Kibaate and Sheikh Habib Kabasa.

Details to follow.
