The Commander of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has issued an apology over the fatal shooting of Sembusi Alex, who was killed during a political rally organized by Lwemiyaga County MP Theodore Ssekikubo.
The incident occurred on Thursday, sparking public outrage and calls for accountability. A condolence message was delivered on behalf of Gen. Muhoozi by Major General Deus Sande, Commander of the UPDF Armoured Division.
“On behalf of the CDF and the UPDF family, accept our heartfelt condolences during this time of grief following the tragic loss of our beloved citizen,” Gen. Sande said.
According to Lt. Teddy Anena, spokesperson for the Kasajagira Army Brigade, Lt. Bashir Zziwa, the UPDF officer who commanded the unit allegedly involved in the shooting, has been arrested and is under investigation.
“Lt. Zziwa is being investigated and will surely face the full force of the law,” Lt. Anena confirmed.
The UPDF has reiterated its commitment to justice and accountability in handling the matter.
