The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has directed the UPDF Engineers Brigade to accelerate the construction of the new Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs (MODVA) headquarters, setting a firm deadline of eleven months for the project’s completion.
Gen. Kainerugaba issued the directive during an on-site inspection visit, exactly one year after he presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the twin-tower complex. The inspection revealed that the construction is currently nearing 50% completion.
“I expect this project to be completed within the next eleven months,” the CDF said, urging the engineers to maintain quality while increasing efficiency.
He was taken on a comprehensive tour of the site, where he assessed progress and reviewed building specifications. Project engineers assured him that the headquarters would be ready for occupation within the set timeframe.
The new headquarters, located within the Ministry’s designated security zone, is expected to house state-of-the-art offices, modern command infrastructure, and advanced ICT systems tailored to the evolving needs of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
According to Lt Col Robert Chabo, one of the project’s lead engineers, the buildings are currently at level three, with only two more floors to go before the structures are topped out.
“We are on track. The structural works are progressing steadily, and the remaining floors will be completed within schedule,” Lt Col Chabo confirmed.
