A sombre mood enveloped Entebbe International Airport as Kampala Central MP Capt. Francis Babu received the body of his son, Cedric Babu, who passed away last week at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya.

Cedric, a renowned sportsman and public figure, died while undergoing treatment for a severe heart condition. He had been airlifted to Nairobi after collapsing in Kigali, Rwanda. His family had been in the process of raising £300,000 (approximately Shs 1.2 billion) to fund a life-saving heart transplant.

“We’re writing this with urgency and hope in our hearts. Cedric—our father, brother, son, uncle, friend, and a bright light in our lives—is currently in the ICU, courageously fighting for his life after being diagnosed with severe heart failure,” the family wrote in an emotional statement released before his passing.

They explained that doctors had confirmed a heart transplant abroad was his only chance at survival.

“This is more than a medical emergency—it’s a fight for Cedric’s future. Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to giving him the second chance he so desperately needs,” the appeal continued.

Sadly, Cedric passed away before the required funds could be raised. His funeral is scheduled for Saturday at his ancestral home in Kamengo, where he will be laid to rest.
