The Chairman of Butambala FC, Hajji Adam Golooba Ntale, has called for calm and patience among his players after chaos erupted during their recent match against Singo FC, which ended in a controversial 1-1 draw in Singo.

The drama unfolded during Masaza Cup, the Buganda Kingdom Football Tournament when Butambala took an early lead through Daniel Bakaki in the 28th minute. However, tensions flared in the 75th minute after Singo FC equalized through Shaban Kayongo in a highly disputed incident.

According to multiple accounts, chaos began when Singo was awarded a throw-in. In a bizarre turn of events, the ball boy reportedly threw three balls onto the pitch.

The Singo player picked one and resumed play, crossing the ball which led to Kayongo’s equalizing goal. Butambala players immediately protested, insisting the situation was irregular.

The match referee, Asadu Semere, was reportedly told by the assistant referee that the final decision on the goal was his to make. Ultimately, Semere allowed the goal, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

“The linesman raised his flag upon seeing the three balls on the pitch. But the referee allowed play to continue. Even after consulting the linesman, who confirmed the irregularity, the referee decided to let the goal stand,” Butambala player said.

He noted that the team had already experienced unfair treatment earlier in the day, claiming they were made to wait over 40 minutes before being allowed entry into the stadium.

Despite the rising frustration, Chairman Golooba urged the players to remain composed and trust the process.

Hajji Golooba said they have petitioned the Masaza Cup organizing committee to intervene in their dispute. Butambala claims they should be awarded three points.

“I ask all of you to stay calm and give me just one day. Let us wait for Mengo to make a ruling. We believe in fairness, and I assure you the matter will be handled,” Golooba pleaded.

He also criticized Minister for Youth, Sports, and Talent, Robert Serwanga for failing to intervene or call off the match after the disputed goal.

“This situation could have been avoided if the Sports Minister had taken decisive action,” he noted.

Butambala head coach Paul Kiwanuka and his team now await a verdict from the Mengo tribunals, hoping for justice after what they describe as a clear violation of the rules.
