The National Unity Platform (NUP) has opened its Eastern Uganda Regional Headquarters, located in the heart of Iganga Town, in the Busoga Sub-region ,  a move that reportedly caught even local law enforcement by surprise.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, NUP party president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, revealed that the land was purchased over a year ago, and construction had been ongoing discreetly ever since.

“I am thankful that up until this morning, nobody  except those who needed to know was aware that it was us building in that place,” Kyagulanyi said.

He added that the secrecy was intentional, due to fears that the project could have been disrupted by state interference.

“No wonder the police showed up asking why we chose to surprise them with a visit. Well, because if they had known, they would have done everything possible to frustrate us,” he remarked.

Kyagulanyi commended the party leaders and officials who worked “tirelessly and quietly” to bring the project to completion.

“This regional headquarters will coordinate our revolutionary activities across Eastern Uganda and serve as a hub for various efforts. It’s a testament to our commitment to building a party that will live beyond us,” he said.

The office is expected to play a strategic role in NUP’s grassroots mobilization efforts as the 2026 general elections draw near.
