Joseph Ssewava, a prominent figure in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and a close ally of President Yoweri Museveni, has declared his candidacy for the position of NRM Vice Chairperson for the Central Region. He aims to succeed the former incumbent, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi.
Ssewava is widely recognized for his dedication to community empowerment, youth development, and poverty alleviation. His decision to contest for this key leadership role marks a significant step toward restoring the NRM’s dominance in the Central Region.
Ssewava brings extensive experience to the table. He has served as the National Youth Coordinator in the Office of the President, where he worked directly with youth groups and stakeholders to promote skill development and economic opportunities for young people.
Over the years, he has championed numerous community projects aimed at reducing poverty, improving education, and expanding access to healthcare and employment.
“I have been instrumental in supporting youth initiatives, providing opportunities for young people to develop their skills and access employment,” Ssewava noted.
“I have also contributed to the development of communities in the Central Region, promoting education, healthcare, and economic growth.”
Ssewava’s bid for the Vice Chairperson position comes at a critical time for the NRM, which many believe needs renewed leadership and energy in the region. He has pledged to mobilize grassroots support, strengthen party structures, and reinvigorate NRM’s presence and relevance in Central Uganda.
The NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) includes the national chairperson, first and second national vice chairpersons, and six regional vice chairpersons representing East, Central, North, West, Kampala, and Karamoja. If elected, Ssewava will join this influential leadership body, helping shape the party’s future direction and policies.
Ssewava emphasized his dedication to serving the party and the people of the Central Region.
“At first, people asked me to step forward, but I chose to serve from other offices. Today, I want to assure the public that I’ve answered their call. I am here to serve my party and restore NRM’s glory in the Central Region.”
He added, “As a leader, I believe in the power of collective effort. I will work tirelessly to mobilize our members, listen to their concerns, and ensure the party remains relevant and responsive to the needs of the people.”
Ssewava envisions an NRM that is inclusive, united, and forward-looking.
“My vision for the NRM in the Central Region is one of inclusivity, unity, and progress. We will work to empower communities, support our youth, and promote sustainable economic growth and development.”
With his proven leadership, passion for public service, and deep-rooted connections within the community, Joseph Ssewava appears well-positioned to lead the NRM’s resurgence in the Central Region.
