Rakai District leadership yesterday officially handed over two acres of land to the Judiciary for the construction of the new Rakai Chief Magistrate’s Court, marking a significant step toward improving access to justice in the region. The site handover ceremony took place at Block 111, Plot 13, Kooki County, Kyewakula Village, Kiwaguzi Parish, Lwanda Sub-County.
The event was presided over by Rakai District Chairperson, Sekamwa Kagwgwa Samuel, and Chief Administrative Officer Ms. Katushabe Beatrace, who formally handed the site to M/s Buildbase Contractors (U) Ltd — the company contracted by the Judiciary to execute the project.
The contractor was represented by Eng. Patrick Ssembatya, while Senior Engineer Solomon Saerukwaya attended on behalf of the Judiciary’s Engineering and Technical Services Department.
The Chief Magistrate of Rakai Chief Magistrate’s Court, HW Vueni Raphael, witnessed the handover. The District Chairperson expressed gratitude to the Judiciary and the Government for prioritizing this critical infrastructure project, pledging the district’s full support to ensure its successful completion.
Katushabe, the CAO, urged the contractor to adhere to the designs provided by the Judiciary’s engineers and emphasized the importance of delivering a high-quality facility within the contract period.
Eng. Ssembatya assured stakeholders of the company’s commitment to excellence, stating, “This is a two-year contract, but we have the capacity to execute it within a year.”
HW Vueni extended appreciation to the Judiciary’s top leadership for prioritizing the project and thanked the district leaders for donating the land. He also commended the contractor for promptly mobilizing equipment and personnel on site.
Local stakeholders, including the area LC I chairperson, pledged their full support for the project, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening justice delivery in Rakai District.
