Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has mourned the death of former Minister for Public Service and pioneering politician, the late Lay Canon Rhoda Nakibuuka Nsibirwa Kalema.
Canon Kalema passed away at 3:27 a.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi, where she had been transferred for specialized medical care after falling critically ill.
Her condition deteriorated on Saturday night, shortly after attending a Scripture Union conference. She developed acute abdominal pain and was first rushed to Kiboga Hospital. She was then transferred to Nsambya Hospital before being airlifted to Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi for further treatment.
“Rhoda was instrumental in the restoration of the Buganda Kingdom after it was abolished by the late President of Uganda, Apollo Milton Obote,” Kabaka Mutebi said in his condolence message to the family.
“Maama Rhoda has left a lasting legacy in politics and leadership, human rights, and education. We shall forever remember her for championing women’s rights,” he added.
The Kabaka urged his subjects to emulate her exemplary leadership and dedication to public service.
