Absa Group Chief Executive Officer Kenny Fihla visited Uganda this week as part of his first strategic East Africa roadshow since assuming the role last month. The visit underscores Absa’s commitment to deepening client relationships, supporting regional integration, and reinforcing its long-term investment in East Africa’s economic growth.

The roadshow, which also included a stop in Tanzania, is focused on engaging with key stakeholders—ranging from government officials and business leaders to Absa employees—in order to align the Group’s strategic priorities with regional opportunities.

“Uganda is a country of vast potential, and we are proud to be part of its growth journey,” said Fihla. “This visit reaffirms Absa’s commitment to our clients and colleagues in Uganda. We are here to listen, to learn, and to ensure our strategy continues to reflect the evolving needs of the communities we serve. Customer centricity is not just a value—it’s the core of how we operate.”

While in Uganda, Fihla participated in a series of high-level meetings with local leadership and stakeholders, as well as internal engagements with Absa Uganda teams.

Uganda’s economic outlook for 2025 remains optimistic. The World Bank estimates GDP growth accelerated to approximately 6% in FY24, up from 5.3% the previous year—driven by broad-based expansion in services and industry. The African Development Bank’s Country Focus Report 2025 highlights Uganda’s improving monetary policy framework, stable inflation, and resilient exchange rate as strong foundations for sustainable development.

“We are honoured to host our Group Chief Executive Officer in Uganda,” said David Wandera, Managing Director of Absa Bank Uganda. “His visit reaffirms Absa’s long-term commitment to this market and highlights Uganda’s strategic role within our pan-African network. It’s a valuable opportunity to reflect on our progress, engage with stakeholders, and ensure alignment with the Group’s vision.”

Absa’s operations in Uganda continue to evolve, with an emphasis on innovation, digital transformation, financial inclusion, and the development of local talent. The roadshow forms part of a broader effort to align the Group’s continental strategy with regional priorities and to strengthen Absa’s position as a trusted financial partner in East Africa.
