Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, has died days after being critically injured in airstrikes that struck Tehran, Iranian state media reported.

According to reports from Al Alam and Tasnim News Agency, the 79-year-old succumbed to her injuries on March 2, 2026, after spending several days in a coma.

She was wounded on February 28 during strikes that allegedly targeted the Supreme Leader’s residence amid escalating regional hostilities.

Iranian state outlets described her death as “martyrdom,” a designation frequently used by officials for those killed in attacks or acts of war.

Born in 1947 in Mashhad, Khojasteh Bagherzadeh married Khamenei in 1965.

Despite her proximity to one of the Middle East’s most powerful figures, she maintained a notably low public profile, rarely appearing at official events and avoiding media attention throughout her husband’s decades in power. Her death marks a deeply personal blow to Iran’s leadership at a time of heightened tensions following reported U.S.–Israeli airstrikes on the capital. Iranian authorities have yet to provide further medical details or outline potential responses.
