A renowned city lawyer John Baptist Kakooza, husband to Justice Irene Mulyagonja and a champion of human rights has passed on, Daily Star can reliably report. Kakooza passed away earlier today.

His death was confirmed by Isaac Ssemakadde, President of the Uganda Law Society.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Senior Advocate John Baptist Kakooza — a distinguished essayist, NSSF icon, stalwart of the Democratic Party, champion of justice, intellectual pillar of the Radical New Bar, and a trailblazing figure in Uganda’s legal landscape,” Ssemakadde said.

He added that Kakooza’s fearless advocacy and transformative vision for the legal system left an indelible mark.

“We will draw ongoing inspiration from his legacy as we continue to pursue equity and accountability. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family during this difficult time,” he added.

At the time of his passing, Kakooza was married to Justice Irene Mulyagonja, former Inspector General of Government (IGG). The couple had three children together.

Kakooza was the founder of the law firm John B. Kakooza Advocates and served as a Commissioner of Oaths.

According to burial program, there will be a vigil at their home in Nsambya on Tuesday, mass at Lubaga Cathedral on Wednesday followed by burial in Kalungu on Thursday.
