LG Electronics East Africa has reaffirmed its commitment to the Ugandan market through a strategic expansion aimed at meeting the country’s rapidly growing demand for home appliances and consumer electronics.
The expansion is being implemented in partnership with LG’s sole Ugandan distributor, Appliance World Limited (AWL). This move comes at a time when Uganda’s home appliance market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 10.62%, reflecting both local and regional momentum.
Across East Africa, the home appliance market is seeing similar surges: Kenya is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.75%, Tanzania at 10.50%, and Ethiopia leading at 13.02%. LG’s expansion in Uganda is part of a broader East African strategy aimed at capturing this increasing demand driven by urbanization, lifestyle changes, and rising middle-class incomes.
Speaking during the 31st Uganda International Trade Fair, hosted by the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) under the theme “Sustainable Industrialization for Inclusive Growth, Employment and Wealth Creation,” Jane Kariuki, LG East Africa’s Regional Head of Marketing, emphasized Uganda’s strategic importance.
“Uganda is an important market for us, with a young, dynamic population that is increasingly seeking modern household appliances that suit their evolving lifestyles,” she said.
“Participation in the UMA Trade Exhibition allows us to engage directly with our customers and partners, reinforcing our long-term commitment to Uganda and the region. This exhibition is the ideal platform for us to showcase our latest innovations while deepening partnerships with government, industry, and local distributors,” Kariuki added.
The LG exhibition was co-hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uganda, the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The event brought together entrepreneurs, government officials, and private sector leaders to highlight Uganda’s industrial resilience, innovation, and growth potential.
“We have seen a steady increase in demand for energy-efficient home appliances that make life more convenient and sustainable. Strengthening our presence in East Africa ensures that customers have easier access to innovative LG solutions and dependable after-sales service,” Kariuki said.
“This strategy reflects our vision of transforming everyday living experiences for all our customers.” She said.
At the trade fair, LG through Appliance World Limited showcased a wide range of home appliances and entertainment solutions, emphasizing energy efficiency, smart technology, and user convenience.
The exhibition highlighted LG’s continued investment in Uganda’s consumer electronics sector and its commitment to delivering global innovation at the local level.
