The newly constructed Luzira Prison Staff Clinic is poised to transform healthcare delivery for prison staff, inmates, and surrounding communities, according to Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr. Johnson Byabashaija.

This state-of-the-art facility features a wide range of modern amenities, including admission wards, an intensive care unit (ICU), maternity wards, surgical theaters, and diagnostic centers. During a recent visit, the team reviewed medical equipment demonstrations and patient care protocols, showcasing the clinic’s readiness to provide top-tier services.

The clinic is expected to serve residents of Mutungo, Luzira, Kitintale, Mbuya, Namuwongo, Nakawa, Kinawataka, and Bugolobi, offering accessible and high-quality care closer to home.

With an emphasis on patient-centered care, preventive strategies, and public health initiatives, the facility aims to establish a compassionate and comprehensive healthcare model that prioritizes individual well-being and fosters a healthier society.

By offering on-site emergency care and reducing the need for external referrals, the clinic will ease the burden on public hospitals while providing timely and efficient services to the local population.

“This clinic is a significant boost to staff welfare and community well-being, aligning with the Uganda Prisons Service’s mission. It sets a new benchmark for prison healthcare and contributes to improving the quality of life in and around Luzira,” said Dr. Byabashaija.

He emphasized that the primary objectives of the facility are to deliver exceptional patient care, ensure safety, and promote overall well-being. These goals include improving patient outcomes, addressing health disparities, and fostering continuous improvement, all while reducing healthcare costs through personalized and efficient services.
