The Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Major General Richard Otto as the new Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS) of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), formerly known as the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI). Otto is the current Mountain Infantry Division Commander in Fort Portal
According to a statement issued by Colonel Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information, the outgoing CDIS, Major General James Birungi, will replace Major General Otto as the new Mountain Infantry Division Commander, based in Fort Portal, Muhoti.
The Mountain Infantry Division Commander also serves as the Joint Task Force Commander for UPDF troops under Operation Shujaa in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
