Youth leaders of the NRM Youth League from all 32 sub-counties in Manafwa District have distanced themselves from a letter circulating on social media, dated 27 June 2025, which alleges that NRM Woman MP aspirant Annet Musibikha is not a registered voter or resident of Bubilumi West Village, Buwaya Town Council in Manafwa District.
The letter, purportedly authored by an unknown individual named Ivan Mandu, was addressed to Dr Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the ruling NRM party Electoral Commission. It urged the Commission to block Musibikha from participating in the forthcoming elections, claiming she is not a legitimate resident of the district.
In response, the youth leaders convened a meeting at Musibikha’s residence on Saturday to refute the allegations and formally disassociate themselves from the letter.
Gilbert Waleba, Chairperson of the NRM Youth League in Manafwa District, stated:
“The author of that letter is unknown and is spreading falsehoods. Musibikha is a legitimate resident and registered voter. As the youth of Manafwa, we refuse to be drawn into political conflicts. We support all candidates fairly and encourage anyone with concerns to engage us directly.”
Irene, Khamuka the Youth League Vice Chairperson, added: “This is nothing more than political propaganda. Mayi Musibikha should expect such tactics. I urge the district youth leadership to draft an official statement, signed by all youth leaders, to clear our names and circulate it widely throughout the district.”
Christopher Namisi , Youth Chairperson for Bugobero Sub-county, offered words of encouragement to the aspirant: “They fear you, that’s why they’re resorting to lies. Remain active on the ground, mobilise your support, and you will succeed.”
In her remarks, Musibikha expressed gratitude for the support and composure shown by the youth leaders: “I appreciate the youth for rejecting this false letter and choosing to remain neutral and respectful towards all aspirants. That is the true spirit of democracy.”
Musibikha accused the current Woman Member of Parliament, Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu, of orchestrating the smear campaign. “I call upon Goretti to return to the ground and face the people she has long avoided. She should account for her time as Woman MP and seek votes directly from the electorate, rather than resorting to smear campaigns and blackmail. This is her opportunity to show the people what she has achieved, instead of focusing on tarnishing my name.”
Musibikha appealed to her supporters, and others to remain calm and discerning: “Listen to all candidates and weigh what each is offering. Vote wisely and peacefully. Do not be misled by blackmail or malice. Let us unite and elect a competent leader, none other than Mayi Musibikha. Join me in voting wisely this time so we can develop Manafwa together.”
