Police in Kasangati is probing into the unsettling death of a senior government prosecutor whose body was discovered in her residence days after she went missing.

Her death raised fresh concerns about the safety of public servants and what may have happened behind closed doors.

Fatumah Bbuye Nabiwemba, 47, a State Attorney based at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Kampala, was found dead under unclear circumstances in her home in Wampeewo, Kasangati Town Council.

Her sudden disappearance from work for nearly a week had prompted colleagues to raise the alarm.

The case came to light on the evening of July 10 when Hamuza Kabanda, a driver from the DPP headquarters, reported her unexplained absence to local authorities.

According to police, Nabiwemba had not been seen at work for four days prior to the discovery of her body.

“She was found unresponsive inside her residence, where she lived alone,” said ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police. “Preliminary findings show she was last seen at her workplace approximately four days before being found.”

A team of detectives led by the Division Police Commander cordoned off the scene and retrieved several items for forensic analysis. The body was transferred to the City Mortuary for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

“This is still an active investigation,” Owoyesigyire said. “We are following all possible leads to establish what exactly happened.”

While the police maintain a cautious tone, the death of a high-ranking government legal officer under such circumstances has left more questions than answers. Friends and colleagues describe  Nabiwemba as a diligent professional, rarely absent from duty.

Her death has sparked conversations within legal and civil service circles about mental health, work-related stress, and the importance of welfare checks, especially for those living alone.

As investigations continue, the legal community—and the nation—await answers.
